It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Let’s make sure it stays that way.
Christmas can be a very busy time of year. With so much going on and so much coming and going, it can be very tempting to be complacent when it comes to securing your home. Below are a few precautions you can take to make sure your home stays safe and merry this Christmas.
Switch off the Lights
Make sure to switch off all Christmas and house lights when going to bed or leaving the house for a prolonged period. It will keep the electricity bill down too.
Don’t put candles in your tree
I know this one seems obvious, but candles are often used as decorations. This is a very dangerous fire hazard.
Make sure they’re accredited
Did you know that good quality Christmas lights come with approval from accredited certification organisations stating that the products comply with applicable standards for safety and performance? When buying lights, prioritise quality over cost.
Check to see its safe
Make sure to carefully inspect all Christmas lights before decorating your home. Replace any lights that have frayed cords or loose connections. If you have to replace bulbs, make sure the correct wattage and voltage are used.
Use only one extension cord
It can be tempting to double up extensions cords to be able to reach further but they were not built for this and it can be dangerous. If you need to reach further, but a longer cord.
Lock the house
Burglary rates are higher in the festive period and given how busy we all are it can be easy to forget the simple things. Make sure to be vigilant when locking doors and windows in your house.
